Importing a Quarter Horse?
If you are considering importing a Quarter Horse into New Zealand please contact the AQHA-NZ office and discuss what is required so that you can make an informed decision when making your purchase.
Please be aware that if your horse does not fulfil importation requirements it may not be able to be registered with AQHA-NZ.
Registering an Imported Horse in New Zealand:
- Complete AQHA-NZ registration application
- Provide DNA Markers
- It is the new owner’s responsibility to provide this, extra fees may apply for office assistance
- Provide 5 panel test results
- It is the new owner’s responsibility to provide this, extra fees may apply for office assistance
- Provide Certificate of Registration from association of country of origin
- Provide 5 generation pedigree from association of country of origin
- Ensure the registration fee has been paid online with an email to the office to show payment.
- Post all the above to the office
Foals born in Utero (mare in foal when imported):
- Mare must already be registered with AQHA-NZ, including DNA markers and 5 panel test on file
- Complete registration application for foal
- Provide DNA Markers and Parentage verification, or include hair sample which will be sent to Massey University for testing, or if both parents are 5 panel N/N the foal will be recorded as NR (Not Required)
- Ensure sire has DNA markers and 5 panel test results on file with AQHA-NZ. It is the mare owner’s responsibility to provide this, extra fees may apply for office assistance.
- Ensure the registration fee has been paid online with an email to the office to show payment.
- Include additional fee of $67.50 (unclassified breeding stallion)
- Post of all the above to the office.
